FAQs

Most answers to questions you may have regarding Parafricta™ products are listed on this page.

What are bed sores?

Bed sores, also known as pressure ulcers, pressure sores or decubitus ulcers, are caused in roughly equal measures by pressure (when the blood supply to the skin is cut off for two or three hours) and by friction acting on the skin. The anti-shear properties of Parafricta Fabric reduce the effects of friction and, therefore, helps prevent bed sores.

Can Parafricta Fabric be washed?

The fabric can be washed in temperatures up to 160º Celsius; therefore the garments and bedclothes can be washed at the highest temperature possible in a washing machine, ensuring cleanliness.

Does Parafricta Fabric require regulatory approval for use?

The Parafricta products are CE marked as a Class 1 Medical Device and are registered by the FDA as a Class 1 Medical Device.

Does the Parafricta Pillowcase claim any anti-wrinkle benefits?

Although we make no specific claims for anti-wrinkling or anti-aging we know Parafricta Pillowcases have less friction than, for example, silk pillowcases which are often marketed as anti-wrinkle products.

I have sores on my elbows. Would Parafricta material help?

Parafricta does not currently have a product specifically to protect elbows; however, we are developing a product to help protect both elbows and knees against sores.

I have sores on my heels; can the Parafricta Bootee be worn at night?

The Parafricta Bootee is made of a breathable material and can be worn 24 hours a day without discomfort.

I have a sacral ulcer, but the dressing keeps coming off. Will the Parafricta Undergarment help?

Almost certainly; the Parafricta Undergarment was designed to keep sacral wound dressings in place by reducing the “rubbing” that occurs when you are lying down.

Is a Parafricta Bedsheet an alternative to a pressure relieving mattress?

Bedsores, which can lead to ulcers, are caused both by pressure and by friction and shear. The use of a Parafricta Bedsheet reduces the negative effects of friction and shear, therefore helping prevent bedsores forming. For severe cases, a Parafricta Bedsheet should be used in conjunction with a pressure relieving mattress.

Where does the word Parafricta come from?

The name Parafricta is derived from Latin and means protect or ward off friction.
