Treating bed sores
|
As with many conditions, the best form of treatment is prevention. Hospitals and nursing homes put effort into preventing bed sores from happening. Preventing bed soresThe best way of preventing bed sores is for a person to change their position regularly throughout the day. Those unable to do this themselves through immobility need help being moved at regular intervals. It is also possible to help through special mattresses and sheets which help reduce the pressure on the skin. The Parafricta® sheets and pillowcases are made from zero-friction fabric that reduces friction on the skin surface and shear within the tissue below the skin. Treating bed soresBed sore treatment involves regular movement of the person and relieving pressure, friction and shear on the skin and tissue beneath it. There are specially designed pressure relief mattresses which help with this, and Parafricta® manufacture special zero friction sheets and pillowcases to reduce further damage from friction on the skin and shear forces within the tissues beneath the skin. Dressings work by keeping the wound covered and clean, plus allowing the dressing to heal the wound. These dressings can be kept in place using the Parafricta® Bootees (for ankles and feet) and Undergarments (for buttocks). The Parafricta® Bootees and Undergarments work to help in the retention of wound dressings by reducing friction on the wound or wound dressing itself. "My husband has MS and could not move around in bed and had a sore heel. The Bootee worked really well - my husband had comfort in bed when using it." Mrs. A.G. Cheshire |
